THE SURFACE OF TIME, 2017

This body of works includes two parts. The first one reveals the process of gold
foil making, while the second part references the things which always come with gold
foil in different cultures. The process of gold leaf making will show us how a grain of
gold turns into a piece of foil with incredible thinness gradually. The works explore
three different ways of how gold spreads on the surface of Wujin paper (the black
paper).
The second part of the works involves the things that we always put gold foil
on. These things, such as gold ring, gold Buddha, gold mountain, and gold egg, may
be made of other materials. But once they are covered by gold leaf, the appearances
of them are changed, and the meanings of them are transformed, too.
